About this workshop

We are seeing greater numbers of children of all ages who have experienced abuse, neglect or are the victims of household dysfunction entering our care in childcare centres, preschools and schools. Children who have experienced such traumatic events have developed strong neural pathways associated with fear and survival responses. Research shows that consumed by fear, these children find it difficult to achieve a state of calmness that would allow them to learn, grow and develop (Perry, 2004; Schore, 2001; Stein & Kendall, 2004).

This interactive workshop provides information and tools on how to create trauma sensitive environments to establish safety, empowerment, collaboration, choice and trust in children in their care, and foster cognitive-social-communication development.

In this practical and interactive workshop, you’ll learn:

  • The definition and characteristics of trauma
  • The types of trauma
  • The impact of trauma on development and learning
  • Strategies to promote a sense of safety, build trust and address learning needs of children impacted by trauma
  • An understanding of compassion fatigue and caring for ourselves

Come along to this practical and interactive workshop that provides an expert blend of information, skills and strategies that will educate, empower and enable you to be the CHANGE in the lives of the people you support.

This workshop is accredited by ACT TQI.
