Stopping negative behaviour starts with creating a positive, predictable environment where expectations are clear, support is consistent, and students feel safe and respected. Begin by establishing whole-school behaviour policies that emphasise positive reinforcement, clear rules and routines, and consistent consequences.
Use behaviour tracking to identify patterns and triggers for negative behaviour, and conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments where needed. Provide targeted support for students with recurring issues, such as social skills training or personalised Positive Behaviour Support plans.
Equally important is fostering positive relationships among staff and students, offering regular staff training, and ensuring that data-informed decisions guide your interventions. A proactive, evidence-based approach can significantly reduce incidents and promote a culture of respect and responsibility throughout the school.
